The News of the Lair’s Dwellers……...
The Stumpers From The Sky!

If you want to learn some awesome words, check this class out!  The class learned some interesting words today!  First, I checked out the words that the lions were using. But, I didn’t  listen in on the definitions so I could be stumped! Truckloads of their words were very impressive! But the jaguars words were masterful! They were words like Orichalcos, melodramatics, and, borealis!  The words were good ways to confuse, annoy, and just have fun with people!  “They were real stumps!’’ quoted Mark, from the scene.  There were even more words around like Deinchoyus, romantics, leprosy too! People looked everywhere! On Encarta, in dictionaries, even level 8.9 books!  Some people didn’t get any good words, but kept on persevering! Know what that means? It means not to give up and keep going! Good perseverance people! And you were good stumpers too! Lets not forget that!

At school today, we were able to do some extra work to catch up on science.  We did our math boxes as well.  After that was done we went to PE.  PE was my favorite class today.  We shot baskets and chose a partner that we have never been with.  I was with Carinna today.  Claire and Kasie were partners.  Jack and Mark were also partners.  At the end of the day I did the daily review with Ms. Ferranti and I got everything correct.  Today was a fantastic day at the Lair!

Do you like moss? If so be sure to head down to

Ms. Ferranti’s room. Today, the class learned about the habitat, life cycle, examples, and characteristics of mosses.

Wow! I didn’t know that mosses have parents and they don’t inherit the genes of the parents. Our number three experts taught us the entire thing we need to know. I thought the examples were interesting because there is a moss called a cushion moss.   I wonder if you can sleep on it! Well I’d better get going on learning more so I can win my team some points!

Kinderbread Excitement

If you like gingerbread men and kindergartners, then you should have been in the multipurpose room today! .The fourth graders and the kindergartners got together to make gingerbread men around 10:00 A.M., but not the kind you bake. The gingerbread men were made out of grocery bags.

First when we got in the room we chose a spot to sit down. Then we sewed through the holes that had already been hole punched in the paper bags that were cut out like gingerbread men. When we ran out of yarn we would raise our hand to get more yarn. It was so entertaining. Once you were all done sewing you would want to leave a little space to put the crumpled up newspaper in. After you put the newspaper in you sewed up the rest of the gingerbread man. Then you would decorate it with shapes to make buttons, eyes, and a mouth. After you finished decorating it you went and took a picture with your gingerbread man, and your kindergarten buddy. Once you took your picture you went to the next station which was the snack station. The snack was gingerbread cookies and juice. Once you finished eating you could color.

This is a holiday tradition at Sunset Elementary. It’s so enjoyable you might want to get held back from kindergarten, just so you can do it again.

 Snags and Nurse Logs

Do you like forests? Today our class learned all about snags and nurse logs which can be found in forests. We learned that when a tree trunk snaps off and falls to the forest floor, the tree becomes a snag, or a very short tree. Then the snag becomes a home for birds and insects. The trunk that falls becomes a nurse log, a home for animals, insects and other baby plants, allowing them to live on the log. After a long time, the nurse log decomposes and gives leftover nutrients to the soil. Do you have any snags or nurse logs in your yard?

Dear Readers

Today Ms. Ferranti taught the class what a possessive noun is.  Another thing that Ms. Ferranti  taught  us was how to do a cursive D.  We also had a math test with an open response. Those were some of the main things that happened today.

Today we studied how plants make food for themselves and oxygen for us. We also studied the rotation the plants went threw to make the food and oxygen. These are the steps. First, the leaves collect energy from the sun. Next, they make some sugars. After that they send it thru the braches and start the process all over again.
