23, 2008 The Samoan Dance On March 20, 2008, Ms. Ferranti’s class learned in music, a part of a dance from the island of Samoa. The fourth grade has to perform it at the end of the school year. On the 20th, they learned page 4 out of 6 pages. That page is called “Swaying Palm.” This dance is danced on the floor and includes lots of clapping. After holding your arm up for so long, it begins to get sore. Some of the kids in the fourth grade practice it at recess. Some of the pages are very hard, and some are just a breeze. There is one word out of all of the pages they have learned and it is “Talofa”. They learned this word on the 13th. You say it on page one while you hold up your right arm and with your left arm, touch your elbow and say, “Talofa”. This dance is a very fun dance to learn. March

2008 Science Fair Reports Today in the Lair we gave our science fair reports. We turned our display boards and told the class about them. Everyone said his or her question, hypothesis and if the hypothesis was correct. Some people experimented on things like coffee stains, popcorn, bouncing balls, flowers and others. The students in the Lair liked sharing their boards, and most students also liked seeing others' boards, too. March 10, 2008 Hi, I’m Mark and I’m going to tell you what I did on Monday with my class. I am only going to tell you one thing I did. What I’m going to tell you about is PE. We did fitness testing. The fitness testing we did was called curl ups. Curl Ups are exactly like sit ups. The fourth grade record for sit ups is 75 sit ups. Someone in my class reached that goal before and it was a boy, although a lot of people have reached that goal. I’ve reached that goal one time too. Some people might think that 75 is a lot of sit ups but really it’s not so bad or long or hard. It’s actually quite easy, to me at least. Normally when you first accomplish it you would be amazed. Well at least I was amazed. We also practiced for our jump rope test. PE was awesome. I hope you would like to do it if you did PE with us. I have to go because I have a little more work to do. See you later next time. March 7, 2008 Party at the Lair! Tuesday, March

New Student! Today in the Lair, the class met Hector! Hector was a student from Newport Heights. He came to Sunset because he moved. It was very hard being a new student. Jack and Austin showed Hector where things are in the school. Hector got everything he needed: a cubby, a desk and many other things. The class also wrote some good advice for Hector to use. This advice will help Hector find things around and also help him become a successful student. The class did everything to make Hector feel welcome. It was a great surprise to have a new student. From now on, Hector is part of the Lair. Hooray! The Lair had a very exciting day with Hector new to the class. |
