Issaquah School District adopted a new math program as of the 2007-2008 school
year. The new program is Everyday Mathematics. Everyday Mathematics is a
program developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project. It is
based on research about how children learn and develop mathematical power.
Long-term memory is built through repetition of learning skills rather than one
lump sitting and learning time only. Everyday Mathematics provides the broad
mathematical background needed in the 21st century and still addresses
Washington State learning objectives.
In Everyday Mathematics you can expect to see...
- a problem-solving approach based on everyday
situations
- an instructional approach that revisits
concepts regularly
- frequent practice of basic skills, often
through games and homework
- lessons based on activities and discussion,
not a textbook
- and mathematical content that goes beyond
basic arithmetic
Below are the links for families to have access
to from their home computers.
- Parent link to unit letters
- Parent and Student link to the student
reference book and the online games: use the student login and password
information to gain access. The student login is above the
teacher/administrator login.
