May 2, 2008 Happy Friday Kindergarten Families,
I can’t believe that it is already May. The year has flown by so quickly and soon all my darling Kindergartners will be moving on to first grade and more new adventures. I am pleased with the progress they are making in so many areas, both academic and social. In reading we continue to work at each group’s level at improving fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. We are also working on our spelling skills by trying to spell words and write simple sentences. I have seen tremendous growth, especially in the invented spelling. In math we talked more about 3 dimensional shapes and sorted the ones brought in by the children. Next week, in math, we will be making our own three dimensional models of cones, triangles, cubes and rectangles. We will also be introducing the dime and providing practice on exchanging pennies, nickels and dimes. Catherine Griffin was our SSP this week. Catherine would like to be a cat breeder when she grows up. We also celebrated Catherine’s birthday on Thursday. Her mom came in and read “Curious George Makes Pancakes” and donated it to our class library. Ian Hutchinson will be our SSP next week. Many thanks to Tyler Karl and his family for providing snack of the week for the letter “H”. If anyone would like to bring in something for the letter “W” let me know. We had our final rehearsal with Howie for our Mother’s Day Tea. I’d like to thank our fabulous PTA for funding this opportunity for us. I know you will enjoy the entertainment we have planned for the tea. We’ll see you on the 8th from 1:00 to 2:15 PM. Today was the kickoff assembly for the Sunset Walkathon. The walkathon is the major PTA fundraiser for this year. Funds from PTA are used to provide grants for classroom materials and programs such as drawing with Pam Svore that the children in this class benefitted from this year. The walkathon is May 16th from 1:45-2:15 and pledges are due by May 15th. The pledge packets went home with your child today. We will need a couple of parents to volunteer to walk with us on the day on the walkathon. Please contact me if you would like to help. I would like to remind all of you that your child needs a note in order to ride another bus, be dropped off at another bus stop on their own bus or be picked up at the end of the day. The best way is to send a note with your child. If I have a substitute they can not access my e-mail and will not get an e-mail you may send me about a change in your child’s schedule. If it’s an emergency, contact the office. I do not always have time to find out if your child’s information is accurate and I can not send them on a different bus or with someone else without your permission. Your child’s safety is my utmost concern. Thanks for your cooperation on this issue.
Have a great weekend, Mrs. T. |
